The ancient Greek gods represent universal values and symbols that remain influential to this day. Their various myths inspired and provided themes for the world's poets, writers, musicians, painters, and sculptors - in a word, for civilization.
The workshop materials include an introductory booklet, a pack with twelve fliers (one for each god), a pack with color drawings featuring well-known myths, and several games.
Each god is represented with a brief description, his identities, basic myths, sanctuaries, attributes and ancient epithets, and related plants and animals. Each god is also illustrated through a statue, a temple, a vase, a coin, and a work of art from Renaissance to the modern era. A selection of money and stamps further illustrates the gods in popular culture
Many games - as well as a "Who's Who on Mount Olympus" - integrate the above information with symbolism, myth, and famous works of art from antiquity to the 20th century.
A card game with twelve different-colored figures invites children to create their own gods, to choose a color for each one, to paint the figure, and to add the attributes.
The Twelve Olympian Gods was originally designed for “The Melina Project — Education and Culture”, and was in 2001 selected by the Hellenic Ministry of Education to be presented to specific schools. To date, it has been donated by the Ministry and the YSMA to 420 schools and educational institutions throughout Greece.
