A warm musical performance reminiscent of childhood, this show was inspired by Lithuanian poetess Salomeja Neri's poem Seneles pasaka (Grandma's Tale). Characters from well-known Lithuanian fairy tales - a goose, a pumpkin, a boy named Johnny, Egle the orphan girl, the wife of a grass snake, and many more - all come to life in this charming production.
But Grandma's Tale is not only for children. Regardless of your age, this story will immerse you in the mysterious and vivacious world of fairy tales. Special songs and tunes written by director Aidas Giniotis will inspire the audience to sing along. Grandma's Tale is a performance not just to watch, but to be a part of!
In 2007, Grandma's Tale won the Lithuanian theatre award, the "Golden Stage Cross", for the Best Children's Play.

Grandma's Tale
Our winters are hoary,
White on white wherever you look.
Long tales they tell us toddlers,
Evenings, in the parlor.
About a blizzard that gets you lost
And braids the sun clipped off.
The swan pumpkin
Bound for desert lands.
About wolf and white bear
And spells that devils come up with.
Waters splashing
Up from silver wells.
About the third son Jonas,
The proud horseman he is.
And Egle, the watersnake's wife,
Whose children changed into trees.
And how the grieving orphan girl
Came empty-handed back,
How the pines wading big drifts
Found no way to climb out.
Thumbkins sleep in the drifts.
There are goldfish under the ice.
A witch will run across the snow
Without leaving tracks.
Good-natured as the orphan girl is,
Her stepmother stays mean ...
As Grandma nods off, so
The story stops short.

Seneles pasaka
Apšerkšnije musu žiemos –
balta balta, kur dairais.
Ilgas pasakas mažiemus seka
pirkioj vakarais.
Apie klaidžia sniego puga,
saules nukirptas kasas,
apie žasina moliuga,
kurs išskrido i dausas.
Apie vilka, balta meška,
burtus, išdaigas velniu,
apie vandenis, kur teška
iš sidabro šuliniu.
Apie trecia broli Jona –
koks jis raitelis puikus,
apie Egle – žalcio žmona,
medžiais paverstus vaikus.
Kaip našlaite nusiminus
grižo tušciomis atgal...
Brenda pušys per pusnynus
ir išbris niekaip negal.
Pusnynuos nykštukai miega,
aukso žuvys po ledu.
Bega ragana per sniega,
nepalikdama pedu.
Našlaitele gero budo,
o jos pamote pikta...
Bet senele užusnudo
ir jos pasaka baigta.
